Teaser Tuesday 1/29/13 (2): Scent of Magic by Maria V. Snyder

  • Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
This week Dani and I decided to share a teaser from Scent of Magic by Maria V. Snyder, which came out just a month ago! We are complete fans of her, and we've pretty much written every YA book she's written out there.

Scent of Magic (Healer, #2)Synopsis:
Hunted, Killed—Survived?

As the last Healer in the Fifteen Realms, Avry of Kazan is in a unique position: in the minds of her friends and foes alike, she no longer exists. Despite her need to prevent the megalomanical King Tohon from winning control of the Realms, Avry is also determined to find her sister and repair their estrangement. And she must do it alone, as Kerrick, her partner and sole confident, returns to Alga to summon his country into battle.

Though she should be in hiding, Avry will do whatever she can to support Tohon’s opponents. Including infiltrating a holy army, evading magic sniffers, teaching forest skills to soldiers and figuring out how to stop Tohon’s most horrible creations yet; an army of the walking dead—human and animal alike and nearly impossible to defeat.

War is coming and Avry is alone. Unless she figures out how to do the impossible ... again.

And here is you teaser:

"Prince Kerrick's a forest mage. Which means his eyes change color with the seasons. Right?" he asked.
He stared at me for a moment, "Lucky guy."
--(pg. 127, Scent of Magic)

Oooh! I personally loved this moment in Scent of Magic, and this is Dani's current read. Who is this new "he"? Wondering where Kerrick is to hear this? Find out in Scent of Magic!
